Statuary images of Nepal depicting the moments the Buddha's birth mother Sirī Mahāmāyā, is giving her week-old child, the Buddha-to-be, into the care of her younger twin sister Mahāpajāpatī Gotamī, shortly before her death on the waning lunar quarter. Together with and behind them here stands Suddhodana rāja, the Buddha's father.

80 years after the passing of his birth mother, the Buddha too entered Mahāparinibbāna. 40 years later, his conatal cousin, longtime personal assistant, and guardian of his teachings the Venerable Arahant Ānanda Thero entered Parinibbāna on the same day.
