Dhammadharini Bhikkhuni Sangha Kathina
Time & Location
About the Event
We welcome all of our Dhamma friends to join our Dhammadharini Bhikkhuni Sangha Kathina Sangha Gathering “Offering the Robe of Merit” on Sunday October 31st!
The Kathina comes at the end of Vassa, the three-month rainy season retreat, and is a celebration of community & generosity. It is the traditional time of year for the lay community to express their support for the monastic Sangha by offering essential requisites (food, clothing, shelter, and medicines).
The central feature of Kathina is the offering of cloth to the Sangha, who awards it to one of their members--in some traditions, this cloth is then sewn into a robe before dawn of the next day.
It will be a full day of celebration, with activities including:
- Early morning offering of cloth to the Bhikkhuni Sangha
- Morning sewing of the Kathina robe
- Afternoon Dhamma talk marathon, and continued sewing of the Kathina robe
- Early evening “Spreading the Kathina,” celebrating and Blessing Chanting when the robe is complete
The program will begin at 6:40am Pacific Daylight Time (California time), with the offering of the Kathina cloth at dawn. You are most welcome to join for all or part. Please see this Time Zone Converter to find your local time.
Here is the planned schedule for the day (please note that this schedule is still being refined and is subject to anicca!):
6:40am: Offering of Kathina cloth
8:00am - 10:00am: Community sewing time
11:00am: Meal offering
1:00pm: Sila program, parade with Kathina cloth, Sangha Dana
3:00 until completion of the robe: Dhamma Talk marathon
Spreading the Kathina (when the robe is finished)
For COVID safety, a limited number of friends will be able to visit the monastery in person for the event, with sign up available for morning, lunch, or afternoon time slots. Follow the link below to register.
